Solving Exchange 2010 Server error “Mailbox exceeded the maximum number of corrupted items ..” ?

Microsoft Exchange server is an important application for millions of businesses around the worldwide. Exchange 2010 server is the latest features rich version of Microsoft Exchange Server and most of the users are trying to migrate from old version to Exchange Server 2010. But, sometimes when you try to move your mailboxes from a previous version to Exchange 2010 server, it shows some error messages. The reason behind these errors could be corruption of Exchange Mailbox. In this situation, you need to opt for Exchange Server Repair to get repaired and moved your mailboxes.


Consider a scenario, wherein, you are a user of Exchange Server 2003 and try to move your mailboxes to MS Exchange Server 2010. An unwanted error message is displayed, that is:

“This mailbox exceeded the maximum number of corrupted items that were specified for this move request.”

Additionally, you may see the following event Id in the Application event log:

After this error message, you will not be able to move the user mailboxes.



Cause:

The user mailbox has too many corrupted items for which the move request is configured to skip.


Solution:

If in case, your mailbox reaches corrupt items limit which is set to 50, then you have following solutions:

a) Increase the limit of bad items to 100 or 200
b) Export the user mailbox into outlook .pst file and try to fix it.
c) Use MFCMAPI tool to recognize the status of the corruption and delete them permanently.

Another solution of this problem is to use a third party tool to repair and restore the corrupt Exchange mailboxes. These tools are designed with advanced scanning techniques to read the corrupt or damaged Exchange database files.
